Sometimes an opportunity to shoot something other than what was originally planned arises unexpectedly! After midnight, as I was setting up my tripod for a dark night shoot, I saw something interesting, and changed my composition to accommodate the new shot.
The ‘Free Climb’, does not refer to the rising crescent moon. In fact, it refers to the rock climbers, who are free climbing in the night and scaling the El Capitan, the 3000 foot high granite monolith! The small white dots on the face of the granite wall are the climbers with their headlamps on! What a sight in the middle of the night! I was amazed at the determination of these athletes, scaling the most impressive granite on the planet while braving the freezing cold and darkness.
